Happy Pride Month! We're celebrating love and diversity, teaching empathy and choosing to lead with heart always. Every family is unique and through children’s books and age-appropriate discussions, we deepen our understanding of inclusivity and foster a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.
These beautiful books live on our classroom shelves, not just during the month of June but, all year round and have become some of our most favourite reads. We’re happy to share them with you!
1. And Tango Makes Three
This book has been a long time favourite amongst our students. And Tango Makes Three is a heartwarming story of two male penguins, Roy and Silo, who create a family together.
2. Why We Fly The Rainbow
Why We Fly The Rainbow is a book narrated by two happy jellybeans who discuss with their friends the LGBTQ+ initials, the Pride flag and what it means to be a good friend.
3. Julián Is a Mermaid
Julián is a Mermaid is another one of our students’ favourite books. It is a beautifully written and illustrated book that tells the story of Julián who wants to become a mermaid. He dreams of being a part of the Coney Island Mermaid Parade.
4. All Kinds of Families
All Kinds of Families is a fun children’s book that discusses how families come in all shapes and sizes in such a warm way.
5. Neither
Neither is a touching story that promotes diversity, teaching us that everyone is unique and that it’s our differences that unite us. This colourful children’s book tells the story of a little creature who’s not quite a bunny and not quite a bird on their journey to fit in.
