Connecting with Montessori Friends Worldwide

Our Midtown Campus Lower Elementary students have started a new pen pal program with Harbor Montessori School in Gig Harbor, Washington and they just received their first letters in the mail! This program has become a valuable part of our Elementary classroom activities.

The Joy of Authentic Communication

The arrival of handwritten letters from across countries brings a special kind of excitement to our classroom. This tangible exchange offers our students something increasingly rare in our digital age—authentic connection through purposeful writing.

Our students approach letter-writing with joyful engagement. This authentic communication inspires curiosity and creates opportunities for resourcefulness as students thoughtfully craft their messages, discovering the power of their own written voice.

Expanding Global Awareness

Through these exchanges, our children gain concrete, experiential learning about different countries and communities. Their Harbor Montessori friends share stories about life in the Pacific Northwest, while our students become ambassadors for our own community.

This experience beautifully supports the Montessori vision of Cosmic Education, helping children understand their connection to the broader world and develop as engaged, responsible citizens with global awareness.

This simple exchange of letters creates an environment that fosters independence, intrinsic motivation, and meaningful social connections. Like all meaningful Montessori work, our pen pal program offers children a chance to develop their potential as they step out into the world, embracing connection and communication as part of a lifelong journey.
