Be nice. (The world is a small town.)
Austin Kleon
As we welcome the start of a new year that seems already strangely familiar, we want to take some time to reflect on the adage that it is a small world, after all. We are always crossing paths with friends and friends-to-be. That person you made eye contact with when you crossed the street and made sure to keep a safe distance from might be the shop owner from down the street worrying about what the next few months will bring. It could be a parent struggling to help their child with math or French homework while trying to decide what to make for dinner. Or it might be a neighbour you haven’t met yet.
The world is a small town. We have to keep looking out for each other, being kind to each other. So keep making eye contact. Give a little nod or share that smile (people really can see them under the masks!). Try saying hello to a stranger once a day. Get some takeout from down the street. Let someone get into your lane when you are driving to the local shops. Buy local!
We are all looking forward to the time when our world settles back into something that we used to be familiar with. But until then, let’s work together and get through this pandemic safely, and try to share some kindness everywhere we go.
Be well,
