J.M. Barrie
“Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”
Weeks have passed and we have all begun to settle into this temporary new normal. From balancing working at home and homeschooling children, managing fears and anxieties, to missing family and friends – these times have presented us with challenges and hardships. However, in the years to come, when we look back at these unique times, what we will remember most will not be the difficulties and frustrations, but rather the kindness, selflessness, and love we have collectively experienced.
We will remember the doctors, nurses, grocery store workers, and more who worked long and tireless hours to serve our community when we needed them most. We will remember the family members and friends who decorated their cars and drove by to help us celebrate a socially-distanced birthday or milestone. We will remember the neighbours who offered to get groceries for the elderly members in their communities. We will remember the children who decorated the sidewalks with chalk messages of hope. We will remember everyone who called or emailed to check in. We will remember those who offered a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. Most importantly, we will remember these times as when we all stood together even though we had to stay apart. It is these expressions of love and the offers of support and assistance that will stand out the most. Now more than ever, it is so important that we lead with heart. It is these stories of kindness and compassion that will be the legacy that we will leave for the generations to come. When the world may have seemed dark, we rose up and were beacons of light.
Please remember that in a world where you can be anything, the most important thing you can be is kind. The world can always use a little more love.
Be well,

Urban gardening is an important part of our school’s signature curriculum and a beloved subject amongst all of our students. Additionally, caring for plants is a wonderful practical life activity. As the cold weather is (hopefully!) now behind us, spring sunshine and warmth is on the horizon. It is the perfect time to plant a family herb garden. However, we suggest an herb garden with a twist…A PIZZA GARDEN! A pizza garden is a container where you grow all the herbs traditionally used on pizza – fresh basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and more – and your family can use them to make your very own culinary masterpieces on pizza night!

Mindfulness is a practice where you use the five senses to engage physically and non-judgmentally with the world around you. When you do a task with mindful awareness, you do it with 100% of your energy and attention. Practicing mindfulness is incredibly empowering for children. It can help them better manage stress and anxiety when it does occur, helps with self-regulation, and promotes positive emotions and self-compassion. Big Life Journal has suggestions for five fun, simple, and easy to do at-home activities for helping your child live in the present and focus on the positive using mindfulness.
